As the Republican Party finishes with the Iowa caucus before it moves on to the New Hampshire primary Iowa has just confirmed the first winner and losers of the process with Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney each polling 25% of the caucus with Romney winning by 8 votes.
- Ron Paul polled 21% gaining many younger supporters and maximising social media to its fullest potential whilst Newt Gingrich has been hit by negative ads leaving him on 13% after leading the pack prior to Christmas.
- Texas Governor Rick Perry polled 10% and has indicated he will fly back home to consider his strategy for the future whilst Michele Bachmann polled 5% and is still in the race.
- Jon Huntsman only polled 1% but has not contested the state and awaits the remaining candidates in New Hampshire.
This result was the closest ever Iowa caucus result for the Republican Party.
